The outcome: proactively protecting buildings during tunnel construction
The challenge: preventing damage to buildings in the event of large tunnel works
Drilling tunnels is not without risk. Especially in large-scale projects such as an underground railway connection that runs right under the city centre. Any deformations of buildings must be closely monitored. But monitoring buildings on a such large scale is a challenge. A large number of sensors need to be installed, adjusted and connected to software, in order to prevent damage to these buildings.
The solution: measuring equipment and software to monitor buildings
After installing 3 total stations, more than 300 prisms, and after connecting everything to the IoT, a real-time view of the movement of the buildings in the area has become available. Due to the enormous amount of data in combination with an unlimited number of sensors, the value of the collected data is high. The stakeholders can be kept informed on a daily basis of the status of all measured points, and can receive an alert in the form of a text message or email when thresholds are exceeded.
The result: a safe environment during the construction of a tunnel for a railway line
Installing a tunnel under a city centre is quite something. And because of the gigantic scale on which the situation has been monitored, a lot of valuable insights have been gained. As a result, AGN Rocksoil can now detect and solve problems very quickly, preventing damage. And that’s exactly the power of monitoring: data driven risk management.
